PROJECT D-1
Spills and Historical Releases to Surfaces (Natural and Manmade)
Quick Lube Facility, Warwick, RI
PROBLEM:
Concrete bay floors were covered with slippery, oily conditions
At a quick lube facility in Warwick, Rhode Island, the bay floors were
covered with years of oil buildup and other residues from servicing
vehicles. Oil had also accumulated in the bay lifts. These conditions
were causing a managerial concern for employee injury due to slippery
floors - as well as odors and unsightly working conditions.
SOLUTION:
Scrubbing of floors with MicroSorb® ER and MicroBlue®
The floors were initially swept to remove any loose material and then
they were scrubbed with stiff brooms utilizing
MicroSorb® ER, MicroBlue®, and
water. Four bays were scrubbed and left moist for a few hours. The
microbial and emulsifier solution was then directed to the lift sumps
where additional microbial action could take place.
The microbes and emulsifier attacked the oil in the crevices of the
concrete floor and eliminated the oil and slippery conditions.
RESULTS:
Floors no longer slippery or oil covered
With the oil and slippery conditions removed from the bay floors, the
floors were able to be painted the next day, and the dangerous and
unsightly conditions were eliminated.
