PROJECT D-2
Spills and Historical Releases to Surfaces (Natural and Manmade)
Restaurant, Berlin, NH
PROBLEM:
Flooded basement with tipped over oil tank
A restaurant in Berlin, New Hampshire, had a water main break,
releasing water into the basement over a weekend. The rising water
level floated and tipped over a freestanding oil tank in the
basement. The release was not discovered until almost the entire
basement was flooded with oil floating on top of the 10+ feet of
water. The fire department was called in to pump out the basement,
leaving the entire basement area coated with an oil film and heavy oil
odors.
SOLUTION:
Apply MicroSorb® ER to all surfaces
MicroSorb® ER was applied to all walls, floors and
surfaces. The product was applied with brushes and the entire area was
misted twice a day for one week. This was all accomplished through the
approval of the local Board of Health.
RESULTS:
Odors were gone in hours, oil in days
At the end of one week the heat was turned on in the basement and the
MicroSorb® ER was vacuumed off all surfaces. All oil
and odors were eliminated and the Board of Health gave the approval to
reopen the restaurant.
