PROJECT E-2
Septic Sewage and Grease Trap Treatment Projects
Residential Septic System, Norwell, MA
PROBLEM:
Homeowner's cesspool and leaching field near failure; frequent pumping required
A homeowner's cesspool and leaching field was nearing failure, with
pumping of the cesspool required every few months. There was also a
presence of odors. It appeared that the system was not working
properly, as solids and the scum layer were entering the leaching
field, fouling it with fats and greases. Liquid in the cesspool was
continually above the elbow leading to the field.
SOLUTION:
MicroSorb® IS was applied to the cesspool with an initial dose and monthly treatments
One pound of MicroSorb® IS was applied to the system
and then monthly treatments of one to two ounces for one year.
RESULTS:
The system has been performing properly with clear liquid leaving the cesspool
Within a few months, the cesspool no longer needed pumping and clear
effluent was observed leaving the cesspool to the leaching field. The
liquid level in the cesspool was maintaining itself below the elbow to
the field, indicating that the leaching field was functioning
properly. In addition, odors had disappeared. The septic system pumper
was amazed at the condition of the system and was quoted as saying: "I
don't know what you're doing but keep doing it!"
The homeowner is now pumping annually for maintenance purposes
only.
